SWAC Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
14. MJ Randolph
Randolph is a 6’4 guard from Pensacola, Florida who turned into quite the player at Florida A&M. He actually joined the Rattlers back in 2018, but the program was still in the MEAC. He started a majority of the games he played in the Rattlers’ backcourt for his first three seasons before Florida A&M transitioned to the SWAC in 2021. Thus, we’re only looking at his senior season, which was certainly enough to get him mentioned today.
In that fourth and final collegiate year, Randolph averaged 18.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game, helping Florida A&M make a solid first impression in the league. The Rattlers finished 4th in their first season in the SWAC. Randolph scored a career-high 31 points against Santa Clara and became one of the most dependable scorers in the conference.
At the end of the year, he was named both First Team All-SWAC and Co-Player of the Year in the league. Not only was he the SWAC’s top scorer but he led the entire nation in minutes per game, becoming a truly indispensable piece for the Rattlers. He had a pretty special final year with Florida A&M and more importantly, helped them make a fruitful transition to the SWAC as well.
