24. Marcus Romain

Though his collegiate career began at East Los Angeles CC, Romain found his footing at the D1 level. He’s a 6’2 shooting guard from Brooklyn who traveled across the country for that junior college opportunity and headed back east two years later. Romain arrived at Mississippi Valley State in 2015 and had an important role in Andre Payne’s program for the next two seasons.

Romain was a great scorer, averaging more than 18 points per game in both of those seasons with the Delta Devils. While the team struggled with consistency, his junior year did end on a high note, with a 32-point, 11-rebound effort during a SWAC Tournament run that ended in the semifinals. That performance would be his career-high, though Romain would have plenty of other great shooting nights in the league.

As a senior, Romain was named First Team All-SWAC even though he missed nearly a month and a half of the season. He’d have quite the impact for the Delta Devils when he was on the court, guiding them to a three-game winning streak to finish his final regular season. Romain was one of the SWAC’s top scorers during his brief D1 career; it’s just a shame he didn’t have more chances to win basketball games.
