Summit League Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
8. Taylor Braun
A 6’7 wing from Newberg, Oregon, Braun had an impressive basketball career at North Dakota State, starting way back in 2010. He was a vital piece of the Bison program for four seasons, though his career is uniquely positioned in that we’re only able to focus on his senior season. As you can tell by his ranking, it was a pretty special senior year in Fargo.
Braun averaged 17.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game, eclipsing his career-highs in nearly every category. He made 41% of his 3-pointers, scored a career-high 34 points at North Dakota, and led the Bison on a historic campaign. The Bison would win the regular season and tournament titles in the Summit and also upset Oklahoma during the 2014 NCAA Tournament, with Braun’s 11-point performance a decent contribution.
The Summit League’s leading scorer, Braun was named both Player of the Year and Tournament MVP in the conference and was responsible for a lot of the Bison’s success in that final season. Braun was also a solid rebounder and finished 3rd in the league in both steals and assists. There were a lot of successful pieces that have made North Dakota State one of this conference’s best programs, but Braun certainly proved his worth and showcased his talent.
