Miami Basketball: Hurricanes get on the board in 2024 class with Austin Swartz
Miami Basketball has been in the mix with several class of 2024 prospects to this time. They finally were able to get one to commit in Austin Swartz.
After making the Final Four for the first time in program history, Miami Basketball is hoping to get a recruiting boost for future classes. They’ve reportedly been in the mix for a number of top-100 prospects, including a couple of five-stars. One player the Hurricanes has been after is Austin Swartz, a 6’4 shooting guard from Concord, North Carolina.
A couple of months ago, Swartz announced a top-8 list of options. It included Miami, Indiana, UConn, Georgia, Florida State, and others from the region. The shooting guard took several official visits, with the Hurricanes being the latest one a week ago.

In the end, the ACC program was able to make it official, having Swartz as their first commitment in the 2024 recruiting class. It’s an important move for Miami in the backcourt, having to replace former starting guard and ACC Player of the Year, Isaiah Wong. The team does have a pair of incoming international freshmen joining the roster in Kyshawn George and Paul Djobet.
Both of them are talented guards but ultimately, neither are unproven at the D-I level. Neither is Swartz but that future depth Miami has gives them a better chance at succeeding going forward. It’s also a chance for one of them to break out depending on what Nijel Pack, Wooga Poplar and Norchad Omier does after next season. All three starters have an extra year of eligibility if they choose but as four-year seniors, could simply opt to move on.

Either way, Miami Basketball needs to make sure they continue to land quality talent in order to remain in the top tier of the ACC alongside Duke and North Carolina, as well as the trio of newcomers in Cal, SMU, and Stanford.
