Doryan Onwuchekwa is a rising frontcourt prospect in the 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. Which teams are in the running to land him?

Another NCAA Basketball prospect has announced a list of suitors. This one comes from the state of Texas in Doryan Onwuchekwa, a 6’10 and 220-pound big man. He already has the size to be effective at the college level and has a growing offensive game, including the ability to make some shots outside of the paint.

Currently listed as a three-star prospect, Onwuchekwa has several power conference programs after him. And now, there are five teams to watch. Here’s a look at how he’d fit with each potential option in the mix.

Colorado Buffaloes

The Buffs lost starting center Lawson Lovering to Utah but arguably upgraded by adding former TCU big man, Eddie Lampkin. He has 1-2 years of eligibility and the only other big man they have is redshirt freshman Joe Hurlburt. So Onwuchekwa could find himself part of the rotation for what should be a rebuilding Colorado squad once Lampkin and Da Silva departs.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

New HC Damon Stoudamire has added a ton of new pieces to the Yellow Jackets but it’s a bit lopsided towards the guards. The only true centers on the roster is NC State transfer Ebenezer Dowuona and incoming freshman, Baye Ndongo. This is an option where Onwuchekwa could definitely see early playing time and have a sizeable role.

Mississippi State Bulldogs

The Bulldogs are one of the oldest rosters in all of NCAA Basketball this season, with several 5-th year seniors. Two of them are in the frontcourt in Tolu Smith and WVU transfer, Jimmy Bell Jr. Three-star freshman big Gai Choi is the only other center left on the roster so Onwuchekwa could be part of a future rotation, unless Miss State adds a veteran piece or two.

TCU Horned Frogs

As the “hometown” option of the group, Coach Jamie Dixon and the Frogs hope he can keep the Texas native. He added a couple of bigs this offseason via the transfer portal in Essam Mostafa and Ernest Udeh Jr., a former five-star prospect from Kansas. There’s a chance that there won’t be much of a logjam to deal with if Udeh breaks out into a pro prospect. Otherwise, there could be some issues for Onwuchekwa getting on the court.

Xavier Musketeers

The Musketeers will be moving on from the Zach Freemantle/Jack Nunge frontcourt duo and they have several newcomers to the roster for depth. However, unless international big man Lazar Dokovic is an impact offensive threat, that would be a weakness overall when it comes to finding some frontcourt production. That could be how Onwuchekwa avoids the potential logjam there.
