Kansas State Basketball finds a way to get another late addition to the roster in Will McNair Jr. What does he offer the Wildcats?

Around a week ago, Providence suffered an unexpected roster departure just weeks before the 2023-24 season. It was Will McNair Jr., a 6’10 center transfer from Mississippi State. He originally started at New Mexico State, where he spent three years there, including starting as a junior.

Although he has just 29 career starts with an average of 3.9 ppg and 3.3 rpg, McNair is still a big body that can eat up minutes at the center position, which is always at a premium in the offseason. There were a few teams that could’ve used his services late but, in the end, he signed with Kansas State Basketball.

It’s part of a new running theme for the Wildcats and head coach Jerome Tang. He did the same thing when it came to late transfer pickups and it worked out a year ago. This time around, the team landed former BYU guard commit Ques Glover, and now McNair in the frontcourt.

From a roster perspective, Kansas State could’ve used another big man. Nae’Qwan Tomlin is capable of playing both the 4 and 5-spots, while Creighton transfer Authur Kaluma can do the same at both small and power forward. They’ll need to see what they can get out of former top-100 prospect Jerrell Colbert since he’s the only other true center on the roster.

Either way, look for McNair to at least get around 15 mpg in this rotation at Kansas State and he very well can start if the team wants to use some bigger lineups. With likely four new starters this upcoming season and without both Keyontae Johnson and Markquis Nowell around, things are going to look very different for this squad. But at least they won’t have to worry about depth concerns now.
