Memphis Basketball: 4-star G Jared Harris becomes 1st commit of 2024 class
After an offseason filled with transfer pickups, Coach Penny Hardaway and Memphis Basketball went back to the high school trail, landing a good talent in guard Jared Harris.
It’s been an incredibly busy offseason for Memphis Basketball, particularly when it comes to the transfer portal. They landed a number of seniors, almost all of whom have just one more year left of eligibility. That includes the backcourt in former FSU starter Caleb Mills, Alabama transfer and SEC 6th Man of the Year PG Jahvon Quinerly, and UCF transfer guard, Jayhlon Young.
The Tigers are set for this season but one of the non-senior guards that’s in limbo is Mikey Williams. He’s a five-star incoming freshman recruit that’s supposed to have a large role but he’s currently not with the team due to pending legal issues that’s not been resolved. There’s a possibility that he won’t play this season and if that happens, Williams could simply go pro instead.
So Memphis needs some guards for the future. And they were able to land one this week in Jared Harris, a 6’2 shooting guard from Silsbee, Texas. 247sportsComposite has Harris as a four-star prospect, ranked in the top-100 overall.
He’s a natural shooter, capable of producing from all three levels on the court. Scoring could be what the Tigers need in the future so Harris has a legit shot at getting minutes in 2024-24.
Harris is the first class of 2024 commitment for the program and it won’t be a surprise if it ends up being a large class overall. The team is guaranteed to lose at least six players and another 3-5 can join since they’re entering their 4th years in college basketball. That being said, who knows what the Tigers’ roster will look like and how it’ll affect the projected minutes for Harris.
