Some big names are after 4-star NCAA Basketball prospect Chase McCarty. Which of those options makes the most for the small forward?

Yet another class of 2024 NCAA Basketball prospect from down South has updated their respective recruitment. Chase McCarty, who hails from Huntsville, Alabama (now plays for IMG Academy in Florida), is a 6’6 true wing, ranked in the top 100 overall.

McCarty has had plenty of interest from power conference programs, including some big names. And now reportedly, six are in the running to land him. Here’s a look at how he fits with each of the options.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech and new coach Damon Stoudamire have landed two key prospects in the past week in top-50 guard Jaden Mustaf, along with three-star forward, Cole Kirouac. The wing position is the next need to be addressed, as they don’t really have a true small forward on the roster. They have enough guards to use some three-guard lineups this season but with most of them being seniors, the Jackets could offer McCarty plenty of playing time as a freshman.

Houston Cougars

Houston has a lot of guard depth on the roster but with Damian Dunn and LJ Cryer both entering their 4th years in NCAA Basketball, the team could use some impact newcomers from the 2024 class. McCarty would be a nice fit in Coach Kelvin Sampson’s system but he’d have to compete with Kordelius Jefferson and Terrance Arceaux for minutes.

Kansas Jayhawks

Kansas doesn’t have former top-100 freshman commit Marcus Adams Jr. anymore but they do have Johnny Furphy on the roster. However, with Towson transfer Nicolas Timberlake only around for a year, the team could use someone like McCarty to add to the depth.

Missouri Tigers

The Tigers landed four-star wing commit Marcus Allen this offseason but unless Aidan Shaw breaks out this season, still has room available for another small forward target. However, Missouri is also reportedly after top-30 target Rakease Passmore and if they land him, they probably won’t go after McCarty anymore.

Tennessee Volunteers

Tennessee does have a trio of freshmen big guards/wings joining them, including four-star Cameron Carr and DJ Jefferson. But there aren’t any other proven wings on the current roster and Northern Colorado transfer Dalton Knecht is only around for one season. So there’s a clear path for McCarty to get playing time here.

Texas Tech Red Raiders

Texas Tech is likely going to use ASU transfer Devan Cambridge for most of the wing minutes this season but he’s a one-year rental. And there aren’t any other proven options so whoever commits first in the 2024 class has a good pathway to getting a lot of minutes out the gate. New coach Grant McCasland does play at a very slow pace so how that works with McCarty could be a question.
