Duke Basketball gets its third commitment in the 2024 recruiting class in Kon Knueppel. What does he bring to the Blue Devils a year from now?

Around a month ago, I did an article on Kon Knueppel, a consensus five-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class. He’s a 6’5 small forward from the state of Wisconsin, viewed as one of the best pure shooters overall.

In the article, I talked about Knueppel’s potential fit with the teams that have been reportedly linked to him. Some of those teams include Alabama, Louisville, Wisconsin, Virginia, and Notre Dame. But in the end, the five-star recruit made a decision to join Duke Basketball.

It’s yet another five-star commitment for Coach Jon Scheyer and the Blue Devils. He’s the third commit for the program in the 2024 class, joining four-star wing Darren Harris and Isaiah Evans, a five-star guard/wing star that’s ranked even higher than Knueppel. Considering the lack of depth on the wings for the current roster, it makes sense to see the ACC program go after multiple guys that can play the wing spot.

Duke is going to once again need a large recruiting class, considering who they’re going to lose. It’s widely expected that all four key returning players (Jeremy Roach, Tyrese Proctor, Mark Mitchell, and Kyle Filipowski) will go pro, along with senior center Ryan Young. And there’s no telling which of the four 5-star incoming freshmen looks good enough to become “one and done” prospects.

Some candidates as to who else Duke is looking to add includes five-star center Patrick Ngongba, top-3 guard Dylan Harper and Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 overall prospect and an elite two-way forward. The team will need both a forward and a center to round out the class and if it happens, look for them to be a top-5 preseason team a year from now, regardless of who leaves.

Expect Knueppel to play a key role on that team.
