Wisconsin Basketball’s 2022-23 season was a rollercoaster ride. The Badgers suffered a pair of losses in the non-conference, to Kansas in the Battle 4 Atlantis and Wake Forest in the ACC-Big Ten challenge, but still entered the meat of their conference slate riding high. In fact, they entered the New Year perched at No. 14 in the nation and appeared to be a serious threat to contend for a Big Ten Title.

Instead, things went in the complete opposite direction. The Badgers suffered a horrific offensive slump throughout nearly all of January and weren’t quite able to rebound in the final month-and-a-half of the regular season. Late losses to Rutgers and on the road to Michigan didn’t help, but the final nail in the coffin for their NCAA Tournament hopes was a first round exit in the Big Tournament, as the offense once again sputtered in a 65-57 loss to Ohio State.

For all the frustrations that last winter caused, Wisconsin fans have to feel good about the shape of the roster entering 2023-24. While other Big Ten foes watched their team ravaged by transfer portal departures, the Badgers held on to nearly everyone. In fact, the only notable loss is Jordan Davis, who transferred to Illinois State after seeing his role diminish down the stretch this season.

Top-to-bottom, this team has a chance to be one of the most complete units head coach Greg Gard has had since taking over in Madison, but doesn’t mean it’s one devoid of questions. We know the Badgers are going to play hard and defend, but they simply can’t survive another season with the 2022-23 offense. The pieces are in place for an offensive renaissance, but how will they all fit together this winter?
