Wisconsin Basketball: Projected depth chart and rotation for 2023-24 season
Guard/Forward
Starter – Connor Essegian: 11.7 PPG / 3.7 RPG / 27.4 MPG
Connor Essegian is going to torment opposing Big Ten fans for years to come. The guard was a revelation as a true freshman, playing a crucial role in this offense by averaging 11.7 PPG on 47% shooting. There were times last season when it felt like he was the only Badger that could give this offense some bite, and the program has to be hoping for even more with a full offseason under his belt.
Essegian is going to take and make a lot from downtown, as he went 36% from three and took over five per game, but I am curious if he can round out his game. Can he get to the rim and finish more consistently this year? Can he offer more on the defensive side of the court? Wisconsin would be just fine if he settles into a similar role to what he did last season, but they become much more dangerous if we see some growth from the sophomore.
Off the bench – Carter Gilmore: 2.6 PPG / 2.5 RPG / 18.8 MPG
A former walk-on, Carter Gilmore saw his role expand last season and ended up making three starts. That was more out of necessity than anything else with Tyler Wahl injured during the second half of the year, but Gilmore has proven he can play in the Big Ten. He isn’t going to give you much offensively, but is a hustle player who works the glass and can defend multiple positions. Expect to see a healthy dosage of the senior off the bench once again for the Badgers.
