NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing top 3 teams for 5-star Derrion Reid
Derrion Reid is one of the best wings in the entire 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. Which teams are in the running to land him?
Derrion Reid has consistently been one of the best overall prospects in the 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. He plays for Prolific Prep in California and remains a national target. Reid is a 6’8 natural small forward who can do it all at a good level, including shooting, rebounding, and having an impact on the defensive end.
Reid has updated his own recruitment, with a trio of programs now in the mix. He’s going to end up in the southeastern part of the United States but one will it be? Here’s a closer look at how Reid would fit with each of them.

Alabama Crimson Tide
Seeing how great All-American wing Brandon Miller was last season will and has already gotten many elite wings interested in the Tide. If projected sophomore starter Rylan Griffen does indeed breakout and go pro, that leaves the small forward spot wide open for anyone in the 2024 class. With Liam McNeeley and VJ Edgecombe also targets, Reid will need to commit first to avoid competing with another five-star.
Florida State Seminoles
The Seminoles have just one 2024 commit in A.J. Swinton, a four-star wing prospect. Obviously, Reid would beat him out on paper but Coach Leonard Hamilton is known for his roster versatility so both of them can get minutes. And with Cam’Ron Fletcher, Darin Green, and Josh Nickelberry all leaving after this season, there’s plenty of room for Reid to come in and have a major impact.
Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia will likely be rolling with Jabri Abdur-Rahim and/or Illinois transfer RJ Melendez at the wing this season. In the SEC, that’s likely not going to be enough to win at a high level. Reid could come in and be a focal point off the offense out the gate, where at Alabama, he’d be more of a role player.
At the same time, the odds of winning with the Bulldogs would be less compared to the other two options, unless they land five-star power forward target, Asa Newell.
