Point guard

Projected starter: Pop Isaacs (31 mpg)

The lone bright spot for the Red Raiders last season was Isaacs, a former top-100 prospect who started 24 games and was third on the team in scoring at 11.5 ppg, along with 2.7 apg. His breakout game was a 24-point effort against Nicholls State, with a Big 12-high of 23 points against Texas.

Isaacs finished with 11 double-digit scoring games in the final 14, as he became a bigger part of the offense. He shot just 37% from the field but did make 38% from three-point range, showing that he can be a quality spot-up shooter but struggles at creating his own offense. In order for the team to get better, Isaacs will need to be more consistent on offense and become a better distributor since he’ll have the ball in his hands.

Projected reserve: Joe Toussaint (9 mpg)

One of the late pickups for Texas Tech Basketball this offseason was Toussaint, who left West Virginia after the Bob Huggins saga. He was a needed ball-handler with experience that this team needed, coming off averaging 2.6 apg off the bench. That includes a 7-assist performance versus Navy.

Another point guard on the roster is Drew Steffe, a top-150 incoming freshman prospect. He may not get a lot of minutes as a freshman but on a team that doesn’t have true pass-first guards, Steffe could have a chance at running the offense if they struggle in that department.
