Oklahoma Basketball: 2023-24 season preview for the Sooners
By Joey Loose
Schedule Outlook
The Sooners have a lot of new pieces in place and fortunately get a pretty relaxed start to their season, with their first four games coming at home against mid-major programs, including opening night against Central Michigan.
In late November they head to San Diego for the Rady Children’s Invitational, facing off against Iowa on the 23rd before matching up against either Seton Hall or USC the following day. Clearly, this is Oklahoma’s first big challenge of the season.
While the Sooners have a few more uneventful home games, they also will host Providence as part of the Big East-Big 12 Battle on December 5th. Four days later they’ll travel to Tulsa to take on Arkansas as part of the Crimson & Cardinal Classic. Additionally, they get a date in Charlotte with a tough North Carolina squad as part of the Jumpman Invitational.
Since the Big 12/SEC Challenge was cancelled, the Sooners play straight through conference play after New Year’s. With fourteen teams now in the league, they no longer play home-and-home with every squad. They’ll still get a pair of games against Iowa State, Kansas, Texas, rival Oklahoma State, and newcomer Cincinnati. Tricky matchups against Baylor and Houston both come late in the season, while the home finale will be March 5th against Cincinnati.
