Lamont Paris and South Carolina Basketball get another commitment in the 2024 recruiting class, landing sharpshooting wing, Trent Noah.

There’s no question that South Carolina Basketball remains a program in the rebuilding phase under second-year head coach, Lamont Paris. They’re without former No. 1 recruit GG Jackson, who is now in the NBA. And they have one of the older rosters in the SEC for this upcoming season, with nine of the 13 players entering their 4th years in college basketball.

That makes the next couple of recruiting classes crucial for the Gamecocks. So far, they’ve been able to land Okku Federiko, a 6’8 combo forward and brother of current Pittsburgh center, Federiko Federiko. Now, they were able to land the second commitment in Trent Noah.

Listed at 6’6 and around 200 pounds, Noah is a three-star prospect in the 2024 class with a three-star distinction. He hails from Baxter, Kentucky, and had plenty of interest from mid and power conference programs. Noah previously had a top-8 list of options that included the likes of Butler and Saint Louis.

In the end, South Carolina was able to land him. Noah is known for being a quality shooting threat and that’s big for a team that ranked in the bottom-third nationally in three-point shooting, along with bring one of the 15-worst scoring units overall last year.

The backcourt is going to look very different just a year from now. Ebrimma Dibba and Ta’Lon Cooper have to leave no matter what, while Jacobi Wright and Meechie Johnson are in their 4th years too. Zachary Davis averaged 2.2 ppg in 14 mpg as a freshman so it’s unknown how large a role he’ll have long-term.

It’s a great opportunity for Noah to have a sizeable role as soon as a freshman for a South Carolina team that could use his shooting. We’ll have to see if he’s a real SEC player though, or if the level of competition ends up being too much for him. For the Gamecocks, they’ll need this pickup to work out.
