There are six teams vying for the services of class of 2024 NCAA Basketball prospect, Trent Perry. Which of them has the best chance to land him?

One of the top ball-handlers out west in the 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class is Trent Perry, a 6’4 point guard from Studio City, California. He’s a consensus top-100 prospect overall, having great size, and can play both on and off the ball thanks to his shooting ability.

Perry has had interest from many of the top programs out west and nationally and now is down to six options. Which of them makes the most sense from a roster standpoint? Here’s my view of each of the contenders.

Colorado Buffaloes

Colorado has star guard KJ Simpson leading the way and he’s a junior player. So Perry would have to wait a year before having any impact. There’s also Courtney Anderson and R.J. Smith on the roster, two freshmen players. There will be competition for Perry since there are no true seniors on the roster this year.

Gonzaga Bulldogs

Gonzaga has two ball-handlers on the roster in Nolan Hickman and Ryan Nembhard, two juniors that are projected to start. Both likely will be around for two years, so Perry would have to settle for backup minutes in his freshman year. But afterward, the prospect would have a path towards having a featured role.

Oregon Ducks

Oregon has several veteran ball-handlers on the roster, including Keeshawn Barthelemy and Jesse Zarzuela. But the key is Jackson Shelstad, a top-30 incoming freshman and projected starter. There’s a chance that he could be a pro prospect sooner than later but Perry’s future playing time would depend on how long he stays at Oregon.

Stanford Cardinal

The projected starting guard for Stanford is Jared Bynum, a senior transfer from Providence. But with Michael O’Connell and Isael Silva both transferring out, there’s no other depth outside of freshman Kanaan Caryle. Perry would not only get minutes here but get a great education doing so.

TCU Horned Frogs

The Frogs lost star guard Mile Miles this offseason and replaced him with a pair of veteran guards in Avery Anderson and Jameer Nelson Jr. While Nelson does have an extra year of eligibility if he wants to, there’s a good chance that TCU will need to add another group of guards in the following offseason. So, there’s a clear pathway to early playing time for Perry here, regardless of what the team does later on.

USC Trojans

Not only will star guard Boogie Ellis be gone after this season but projected starting point guard and No. 1 incoming freshman, Isaiah Collier Jr., is likely gone as well. That leaves four-star freshman combo guard Bronny James but who knows his long-term prognosis. Perry would not only get minutes here early as well but he’d be able to play close to home as well.
