SEC Basketball: Ranking all 14 head coaches heading into 2023-24 season

SEC basketball might have been the best conference in college basketball last year, and that is all thanks to some of the best coaches in the sport right now. Coaches like Nate Oats, Eric Musselman, and John Calipari are the face of the SEC right now but the rest of the conference has some good coaches that don’t get recognition.
The SEC will be welcoming some new coaches like Chris Beard, while also having several coaches in their 2nd or 3rd year with their school. Guys like Todd Golden and Lamont Paris will have a lot to prove this coming season. Along with coaches like John Calipari and Bruce Pearl, who need to prove they are still the top coaches in the conference as well.
In the past several college basketball season the SEC has almost had a team near the top or is the top of the league. Auburn’s final four run in 2019 and South Carolina’s run in 2017 were one of the bigger runs in recent history. The past few years teams have had middling tournament success however. Kentucky was stuffed by a 15 seed in 2022, Alabama lost early last season after being no. 1 for most of the season, and no SEC team has made it to the final four since 2019. The SEC looks to get back on track this year and it all comes down to how these coaches will lead their team in 2023-24.
This is a look at all of the SEC head basketball coaches and how they rank amongst each other. I’m going to go more off recency bias, but all-time records and stuff will still play in here. Here’s all SEC basketball coaches ranked going into 2023-24.
