NCAA Basketball schedules and previews are beginning to come at a fast clip, and it’s a wonderful thing. Before we know it, people will be talking brackets and the Big Dance (but let’s be honest, that should be a year-round subject). While major realignment beginning next year has taken the majority of the ink this summer, the transfer portal, at least early on has given realignment a run for its money.

The portal (and NIL era) has lent itself to potential super teams as much as that is possible in the college landscape. The 2023-24 season has teams with top recruiting classes and transfer classes at the top of their rankings, leaving the sport with even more teams with top-of-the-mountain ceilings. Any preseason bracketology lists, brackets, or any other type of guesses before any games have been played should be seen purely as a fun exercise of the author’s opinion.

With all that being said, I could see as many as eight or nine teams in contention for No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament. Before the season starts, this opinion is based on things other than game results. Some of those factors include; a team’s returning roster, their incoming new faces either as freshmen or as transfers, and a team’s schedule and whether or not it is the type of schedule that can lead to a No. 1-seed type resume.

Here is a look at some of the teams I believe will be the No. 1 seeds as we head into the season.
