Four-star NCAA Basketball prospect Casmir Chavis is down to just four options. Which of them makes the most sense from a roster standpoint?

One of the best class of 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting prospects from the state of Minnesota is Casmir Chavis. He’s a 6’2 ball-handler from Minneapolis who’s ranked just outside of the top 100 overall, according to 247sportsComposite.

Capable of playing both on and off the ball, Chavis has grown into a target for a number of power conference programs after him. In fact, he’s reportedly down to just four teams in contention.

Here’s a closer look at how Chavis would fit with each of the four contenders.

Arizona State Sun Devils

There are a number of junior guards on this roster right now, including Adam Miller, Frankie Collins, and transfers Brycen Long and Malachi Davis. So that’s one year where Chavis likely isn’t playing if he picks this roster. Plus, Coach Bobby Hurley isn’t fully safe so that’s something the prospect will have to contend with.

Georgia Bulldogs

The Bulldogs have veterans Noah Thomasson and Justin Hill set to run the offense but there’s also a pair of top-100 freshmen guards joining in Silas Demary Jr. and Blue Cain. Assuming both are sticking around for a while, there’s a potential logjam that Chavis would have to deal with, even without other transfers joining as well. However, Coach Mike White is probably the safest coach among the options so that’s a recruiting pitch to make.

Washington Huskies

Mike Hopkins is another coach that needs a good year to feel good about his job but if he does stick around, he’s going to need some guards to join next season’s roster. Both Sahvir Wheeler and Paul Mulcahy will be gone, along with Fresno State transfer, Anthony Holland. So when it comes to early playing time consideration, Washington has an appealing pitch.

West Virginia Mountaineers

It’s been a complete roster rebuild after a dramatic offseason for the program. In the new-look backcourt, juniors Kerr Kriisa, Kobe Johnson, and Seth Wilson are on board, including EMU transfer, Noah Farrakhan. There’s also Jeremiah Bembry, a transfer from FSU that didn’t play last season.

There’s a good chance that West Virginia will have some minutes available for Chavis but the concern is the lack of stability. Coach Josh Eilert is an interim at the moment and if the team isn’t good, he’s not going to get the full-time job. That may prevent him and other 2024 prospects from committing for the time being.
