LSU Basketball: Tigers get key guard commit in 4-star Curtis Givens
LSU Basketball continues to work on rebuilding the backcourt for the future, landing top-100 combo guard prospect, Curtis Givens.
It was a rough past year for LSU Basketball, finishing last in the SEC standings. A big part of the issues was due to the collective backcourt struggles. Changes were made this offseason, with four of the five key guards now gone. Only Trae Hannibal, a 5th-year senior, is left.
But he’s set to leave after this season and so could Jalen Cook, a senior transfer from Tulane with 1-2 years left of eligibility. And outside of Santa Clara SG Carlos Stewart and four-star freshman Mike Williams III, there’s not much guard depth going forward from this roster, especially if Cook opts to leave.
So the Tigers were hoping to get at least one key guard in the 2024 recruiting class. And in what may be viewed as a surprising pickup, they were able to land Curtis Givens this weekend.

Givens is a 6’2 playmaker guard from Memphis, Tennessee. He’s a consensus four-star prospect in the 2024 class, with 247sportsComposite ranking him in the top-60. He’s a very capable ball-handler with the versatility and shooting ability to play off-the-ball next to another guard if needed.
Entering the week, it was viewed that Memphis, the hometown option, was the favorite to land Givens. They, along with LSU Basketball, were among his final options. But in the end, it was the Tigers of the SEC that pulled off the recruiting upset.
Givens joins four-star power forward commit Robert Miller in the 2024 class. The Tigers are hoping for more, as they’ve reportedly been in the mix for a number of 4 and 5-star targets, including having a few other visits. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the program adds at least one more commitment before the start of the 2023-24 season.
