It’s been a big offseason for Atlantic 10 Basketball and its 15 programs. Those who were at the bottom of the standings have looked to the transfer portal to rebuild their rosters, while others brought back a lot of talent in order to make one big push this season. Plus, a couple of key coaching changes could have a big impact on the top of the conference ladder.

After a lot of offseason moves, this could be the most wide-open the A-10 has been at the top in a while. But who are the teams to beat? And who looks the least impressive on paper? Here’s a projection on what each program will look like, heading into the 2023-24 campaign.

15. Rhode Island Rams

2022-23 season record: 9-22 (5-13)

The Rams were nothing short of a disaster in Archie Miller’s first year back in Atlantic 10 Basketball. His roster building that featured a few former top-100 prospects didn’t work out, especially the partnership with Brayon Freeman. He, Ishmael Leggett, and many others are gone, creating a completely new roster again.

The key newcomers are a trio of transfers. Jaden House averaged 17.3 ppg at High Point, while Luis Kortnight produced 10.3 ppg and 3.9 apg at Quinnipiac. And Zek Montgomery comes from Bradley, looking for a larger role with the Rams in the frontcourt. JUCO transfer Tyson Brown is also an impact newcomer to watch.

More importantly, the hope for Rhode Island is that there’s newfound chemistry that didn’t exist last season. But even if we assume that House and Kortnight is an effective backcourt duo in the A-10, they’re going to need plenty of unexpected production elsewhere to be competitive and out the bottom.
