3. St. Bonaventure Bonnies

2022-23 season record: 14-18 (8-10)

It’s been a complete 180 for the program in the past two offseasons. After losing 99.9% of the scoring production in the year prior, the Bonnies essentially returned every one of importance this time around, including all five starters.

That didn’t stop Coach Mark Schmidt from landing some good talent in the transfer portal. Mika Adams-Woods is a grad transfer point guard from Cincinnati after averaging 9.1 ppg and 3.2 apg as a starter. And Charles Pride produced 14.6 ppg and 6.1 apg at Vermont, along with having a past 40-point performance when he was at Bryant.

Those two, along with the returning five starters give St. Bonaventure an elite rotation. Guards Daryl Banks (15.4 ppg), Mose Flowers, and Kyrell Luc had their moments of stardom, while Yann Farrell and Chad Venning are a good frontcourt duo. They’re a team that ranked in the 300s in scoring last season and definitely had a stagnant offense at times.

The last time the Bonnies returned everyone and had high expectations, they underachieved a bit due to a lack of consistent shooting. And that could be the issue this time around. Still, there’s plenty of depth both inside and out and the coaching should have them in contention.
