San Diego State Basketball’s recruiting has boosted this offseason, landing a pair of 2024 frontcourt commits, including Pharaoh Compton.

Coming off making the first Final Four/National title game appearance in program history, San Diego State Basketball has become a genuine top program out on the West Coast. And Coach Brian Dutcher has used the momentum to become more of a force on the recruiting trail.

The first class of 2024 recruiting commit was Taj DeGourville, a three-star guard/wing. After a while without another commit, the Aztecs were able to pull in two frontcourt players in a 24-hour span. The first was David Majak, a 7’0 center and three-star commit out of Glendale, Arizona.

San Diego State was then able to follow that up with a higher-profile name in Pharaoh Compton. He’s a consensus four-star prospect, ranked in the top-100 overall, according to 247sports. He’s a 6’7 combo forward from Las Vegas who’s known for being an athletic and energetic rebounder and defender.

Compton’s game and style fits perfectly with the San Diego State system. Plus, at the Mountain West level, he can play at the five-spot in some undersized lineups. And they’re going to need someone like him for the future, since the team lost both Keshad Johnson and Nathan Mensah this offseason and will be without Jaedon LeDee after the upcoming season.

The Aztecs do have a solid core of underclassmen players in the frontcourt in Elijah Saunders and Demarshay Johnson, along with freshmen, Miles Heide and Magoon Gwath. On paper, Compton has the highest ceiling among the group so there shouldn’t be much of a logjam inside.

Barring a surprise realignment move, San Diego State Basketball is going to be in the Mountain West for the foreseeable future. And if they’re going to remain the team to beat in the conference, they’ll need some talent like Compton to come in and make some key contributions.
