MAC Basketball: Preseason power rankings for 2023-24 season
By Jay George
8. Miami (OH) Redhawks
Last Season: 12-2- (6-12 in MAC play)
This Miami Redhawks can be a surprising opponent this coming year with what looks to be a new, but stable roster. In previous seasons, the Redhawks have performed at a high level getting some impressive wins here and there, but struggle to maintain a consistency to their performance that would allow them to take a step forward.
Different from many rebuilding teams, and to their possible advantage, they have a really young and fresh team. Ten players are freshmen or sophomores with seven of them being classed as freshmen. This dynamic takes the program to a crossroads where they can go two ways. This team can let their lack of experience get to them being outplayed by opponents and not gelling together. Or they can let this new team be the beginning of a new era for the program.
Bringing a new roster would allow them to create and entirely new identity and redefine their destiny in the coming years. While the youth of the roster may mean taking a season before seeing progression, that doesn’t mean there are not positives to look for here. In a perfect world, the program and its fans should expect a season where wins are consistent with work to be done heading into future seasons.
