Projected starting lineup

With such a new team, it can be a bit tricky to know how the starting lineup will exactly look in game one. With a team constructed containing so many interchangeable pieces such as this one, roles can change as time goes along. However, below is the best idea of what could or should be the starting lineup.

Point Guard – Trey Thomas (Senior)

Trey Thomas comes into Bowling Green after spending his previous three seasons with the Vanderbilt Commadores. Thomas really developed into a facilitator in his SEC career, but he also can pull up from three when needed. Although his three-point percentage declined slightly since his freshman season, he ability to score at multiple levels as shown improvement. This makes Thomas a perfect fit at the one as he takes care of the ball, can run the floor, and create for everyone else while still holding his own on both sides of the ball.

Shooting Guard – DaJion Humphrey (Senior)

Having above a 40% three point percentage while averaging over 17 points a game is a great formula for being a successful player at the two. Potentially the team’s best shooter with range, Humphrey will really balance out the scoring attack for the Falcons. In his college career, he really developed his game. With guys like Agee, Hill, and others focusing on the interior and mid-range, Humphrey will be a vital piece bringing the ability to hit three for Bowling Green.

Da’Shawn Phillip (Senior)

Phillip was a focal point at Maryland-Eastern Shore and spent his last three seasons there as a much-appreciated scoring machine. Phillip, like Humphrey brings an ability to shoot from beyond the arc, but also stands out as a defensive guard who can create turnovers which should be a focal point in the fast transition offense.

Forward – Rashaun Agee (Senior)

For anyone that has not seen Rashaun Agee’s explosive impact on the court, get ready for what should be another fun season. Statistically speaking, Agee shines in rebounding finishing off the season with a 26.9% defensive rebounding percentage and averaging just over a block a game. Agee also has power down low to muscle his way to the basket able to take contact and rise up to the basket. Agee showed the confidence to step out and pull a shot from three when needed. If he can develop his free throw abilities, hit an outside shot here and there, and continue his unquestionable presence down low, he will continue to be a must watch player.

Center – Jason Spurgin (Senior)

A true center is something Bowling Green has lacked for the better part of four years. Spurgin brings a little bit more of that back to the basket style of play, which is slightly different to his counterpart, Rashaun Agee. Where Agee can be more of a highflyer that possesses physical power at many levels, Spurgin can be that consistent post player force. He can make explosive plays happen himself, but with the guard play outside, and Agee wreaking havoc through all levels, he will be able to be an enforcer on both ends of the floor possession after possession.
