10. IUPUI Jaguars

2022-23 season record: 5-27 (2-18)

The Jags have been awful for the past few years but some momentum towards the end of last season could be a sign of optimism. Plus, they return the starting trio of guards (Bryce Monroe, Jlynn Counter, and Vincent Brady II), all of whom averaged double figures. If Rhode Island transfer forward Abdou Samb can give them anything inside, this team could have a potent offensive lineup.

But while IUPUI will likely improve as a program, there are still some clear flaws. The defense remains a concern while having no real size on this roster, with just two players over 6’6. Yet as long as the guards can consistently produce, look for the team to at least not be a national laughingstock.

9. Green Bay Phoenix

2022-23 season record: 3-19 (2-18)

Green Bay’s decent into being suddenly and awful Horizon League Basketball program has been a surprise but the hope is that a coaching change could turn them around. Coach Sundance Wicks did lose a few key pieces, including starters Cade Meyer and Zeb Blake. But they have a ton of newcomers, including Noah Reynolds, who averaged 14.5 ppg in 19 games at Wyoming.

There’s a good chance that Reynolds will be an all-league contributor but who will be the leading pieces? Among the few non-DI newcomers is big men Rich Byhre and Will Eames. The Phoenix will need both to be impactful to have a frontcourt that can survive in league play.
