David Punch is a four-star power forward prospect in the 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. Which teams are in the mix to land him?

Another class of 2024 NCAA Basketball prospect is set to announce a decision before the start of the regular season. This time it’s David Punch, a consensus top-150 recruit, with 247sports listing him in the four-star range. He’s a 6’7 power forward from the state of Texas, capable of spacing the floor and rebounds well for his size.

Punch is set to announce on Saturday, October 21st. There are three programs in the mix that have been after him throughout Punch’s recruitment. Here’s a closer look at how he’d fit with the potential options.

NC State Wolfpack

The entire frontcourt for the Wolfpack are upperclassmen, including transfers, Mohamed Diarra and Ben Middlebrooks. Unless the move is for Kansas transfer MJ Rice to play mostly at the four-spot for the future, the team will need more forwards coming next year. Punch plays similar to former NC State starter Jack Clark so that could be the sell to the prospect.

Penn State Nittany Lions

New coach Mike Rhoades has a few veteran transfers set to play the four-spot in Puff Johnson and Zach Hicks. But Penn State needs to find more natural power forwards that can play at the Big Ten level. The team does have two guard (commits (Jahvin Carter and Dominick Stewart) in the 2024 class but none in the frontcourt. Punch would be a welcomed addition for the rebuilding program.

TCU Horned Frogs

As the local option, the Frogs are hoping the Punch will want to stay in the state. The team already has three commits in the 2024 class, including four-star forward, Malick Diallo. Add four-star wing Micah Robinson as well, and TCU could arguably be set when it comes to the frontcourt.

However, if guys like Essam Mostafa and JaKobe Coles opts to not come back for a 5th year, then the logjam wouldn’t be that bad on paper for Punch. Still, compared to the other two options, the local Frogs have the toughest sell in terms of immediate playing time.
