NCAA Basketball: Ranking of top 25 team backcourts for 2023-24 season
12. Villanova Wildcats
It wasn’t a great first year in the Coach Kyle Neptune era for the Wildcats but the hope is that the roster upgrades will get them back as Big East contenders. They did lose Angelo Brizzi and Caleb Daniels, with the ladder being the key part of the offense when Justin Moore was out.
The good news for the program is that Moore returned for an extra year. When he returned from injury last season, Villanova was good. He averaged 13.5 ppg and 3.2 apg in 13 games and is set to be the focal point of the offense. Moore could be the starting point guard, depending on what sophomore Mark Armstrong does with expected more minutes.
The team brought in two key transfers that’ll give Moore more help. TJ Bamba averaged 15.8 ppg at Washington State, including a 36-point game against Washington. Hakim Hart is a 6’6 versatile guard from Maryland, who also was a double-digit scorer and should be an impactful two-way player.
If some of the other former top-100 prospects such as Jordan Longino and freshman Jordann Dumont contribute, Villanova’s backcourt could be stacked this season. But can Coach Neptune put it all together this time around?
