Big East Basketball: 10 biggest questions for league entering 2023-24 season
By Kyle Craib
On the last episode of Big East basketball…
The 2022-23 season proved to be a thrilling and unpredictable journey for fans and teams alike. Several storylines dominated the season, while some managed to put the entire nation on notice.
Shaka Smart and his Marquette Golden Eagles shook off their early season predictions and played their tails off. They rode that momentum all the way to a Big East championship, the first in the program’s history.
Over in Cincinnati, the Xavier Musketeers had fans excited with their lengthy mid-season win streak that shot them up the rankings. Despite having the best offence in the conference, things just never seemed to click when it mattered the most, as the team faltered in the third round of both the Big East Tournament and the Big Dance.
Meanwhile, a new era started at Villanova, with Kyle Neptune taking the reins after Jay Wright’s 21-year run. However, a full season’s schedule and a myriad of roster turnover revealed there was still work left to be done for the Wildcats.
And of course, who could forget UConn’s magical run in March. Dan Hurley and his squad never wavered and outlasted the competition to claim their fifth National Championship in school history.
Heading into 2023-24, a new array of questions have begun to swirl around this conference. From new faces suiting up to old friends moving on, this upcoming season promises to be nothing short of captivating. The first tip-off of the season is closing in fast, so let’s not waste any time.
