9. Antonio Reeves – Kentucky Wildcats

2022-23 season stats: 14.4 ppg and 2.1 rpg

Like Kugel, Reeves benefitted from a larger role in the second half of last season, including a 37-point effort against Arkansas. The SEC 6th Man of the Year shot 40% from deep and has shown this offseason that he can be the No. 1 option on offense. But without knowing what the freshmen can do this season, how big a year Reeves can have is a big question.

8. Boogie Ellis – USC Trojans

2022-23 season stats: 17.7 ppg and 3.1 apg

It was a breakout year from Ellis on offense, leading the Trojans in scoring while shooting 39% from deep. A number of key pieces are gone but joining Ellis is No. 1 incoming freshman guard, Isaiah Collier. There’s a chance that this becomes Collier’s team and that could hurt Ellis when it comes to this award.

7. Caleb Love – Arizona Wildcats

2022-23 season stats (at UNC): 16.7 ppg and 2.8 apg

Love is a former NCAA Tournament star who despite his flaws, still led the Tar Heels in scoring last season and is capable of going off in any game. He goes to Arizona and Coach Tommy Lloyd’s offensive system where he’s going to be a focal point. If Love is more efficient and the Wildcats are a top-10 team again, he’ll be in contention this season.
