NCAA Basketball: Ranking top 20 players for 2023-24 Jerry West Award
6. Terrence Shannon Jr. – Illinois Fighting Illinois
2022-23 season stats: 17.2 ppg and 2.8 apg
After three years at Texas Tech, Shannon became one of the better scorers in NCAA Basketball last season, leading the Illini in scoring. Without Matthew Mayer around, he’ll be tasked with even more of the scoring load. If Illinois can find a way to be a consistent top-20 team and Shannon puts up similar numbers, he’ll be a contender here.
5. Jeremy Roach – Duke Blue Devils
2022-23 season stats: 13.6 ppg and 3.1 apg
Despite all of the talent around him, Roach still managed to produce career-high numbers as a junior. On a preseason Final Four contender, the senior guard just needs to be in the 15 ppg range to have a legit shot at the Jerry West Award. But if Tyrese Proctor breaks out or if any of the freshmen guards have bigger impacts than expected, Roach will be affected in a negative way.
4. Justin Moore – Villanova Wildcats
2022-23 season stats: 13.5 ppg and 3.2 apg
Moore was injured for most of last season but still played at an all-league level. Now, he should be 100% healthy and will be the star of the Wildcats this season. If the team isn’t great or in the top-15 range, Moore will struggle to be a contender here but he’s definitely one of the more talented players from this list.
