Projected starters for Morehead State Basketball

Drew Thelwell – Guard

Thelwell moves from playing ‘Robin’ and becoming ‘Batman’ on this year’s team. Even prior to Freeman’s injury, Spradlin called Thelwell his ‘most important player’. Spradlin says Thelwell’s intangibles are exceptional and ‘all he does is win’. Thelwell’s scoring (11.1 ppg), rebounding (4.3) and long distance accuracy (38%) show up on the stat sheet, but Spradlin says it’s his intensity that sets him apart.

“He finds ways to win,” says Spradlin. “We’re excited about the leadership he brings and how he elevates everyone around him.”

Kalil Thomas – Guard

Thomas was Morehead’s leading three-point shooter, making 64 triples at a 37% clip. The 6’5 wing is an exceptional catch and shoot player that is developing other parts of his weaponry this offseason. With the loss of Freeman, he becomes the second leading returning scorer (7.8 ppg).

Riley Minix – Forward

Minix is an NAIA all-American that played all three frontcourt spots, but is actually a guard. The 6’7 Minix averaged over 25 points-per-game and nearly 14 rebounds last season. Spradlin says he is extremely strong and one of the best rebounders they’ve ever had. The seventh year coach expects Minix to be one of the OVC’s very best players.

Deionte Miles – Center

Miles is a legitimate 7-foot center. He was used sparingly at Xavier but Spradlin describes the grad transfer as good athlete, with good mobility. With those abilities Spradlin expects the Walton, Kentucky native to protect the rim and to be an inside presence that will balance the Morehead guard-oriented offense.

Jordan Lathon – Guard

Lathon was targeted to play heavy minutes last year, but sat out the entire season with an injury. Now healthy, Spradlin expects this 6’4 guard will jump right into a productive starting role. The veteran of 87 D1 games (UTEP & Milwaukee) has career averages of 7.7 points, five rebounds and 2.9 assists and has scored 671 career points
