Texas Tech Basketball: 2023-24 season preview for the Red Raiders
By Joey Loose
Schedule Outlook
The Red Raiders will open their season with three pretty winnable home dates, including an intriguing San Jose State team and two other mid-majors from the state of Texas. They’ll need to get off to that easy start because things get tough later in November.
They’ll head to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis, with their opening game on November 22nd against Villanova. They’ll face off against either North Carolina or Northern Iowa the following day before a third matchup against one of four teams: Arkansas, Memphis, Michigan, or Stanford.
After that extreme challenge, the Red Raiders finish November with a trip to Indianapolis, heading to Butler as part of the Big 12-Big East Battle. They’ll then head back to Texas for a few more home games, including an intriguing matchup against Oral Roberts. Their only real challenge in the month is a December 16th date with Vanderbilt in Fort Worth as part of the US LBM Coast-to-Coast Challenge.
Big 12 play gets underway in early January and is no longer balanced and cyclical with the new additions to the league. The Red Raiders head down to Austin to play at Texas but have winnable home games early on the schedule.
The teams they’ll face both home-and-home are Baylor, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas, and UCF, avoiding a road trip to Kansas in particular. There are clearly plenty of challenges on the Big 12 schedule, including their final shots at Oklahoma and Texas before they depart for the SEC. Senior Night and the regular season finale will be March 9th against Baylor.
