NCAA Basketball: Ranking of top 25 team frontcourts for 2023-24 season
15. UCLA Bruins
One of the best “frontcourt” players in NCAA Basketball last season was combo forward Jaime Jaquez, who led the Bruins with 17.8 ppg and 8.2 rpg, earning both All-American and Pac-12 Player of the Year honors. He’s off to the NBA, while backup center Mac Etienne transferred to DePaul.
The lone starter from last season’s team that is back is Adem Bona. The former five-star prospect averaged 7.7 ppg and 5.3 rpg as the Pac-12 Rookie of the Year. He, along with backup Kenneth Nwuba, are the lone “proven” frontcourt players on the team.
But there’s a ton of talent joining UCLA, including some with NBA potential. Aday Mara is a 7’3 center coming over from Spain that some view as a lottery pick, while Burke Buyuktuncel is a power forward who was a standout in U19 international play. There’s also a pair of top-100 American forwards in Devin and Brandon Williams, both of whom should help on the defensive end.
Between the reported eligibility concerns with both Buyuktuncel and Mara, I can’t go all in with this Bruins frontcourt. But when it comes to pure ceilings, it’s hard to find many teams with more raw individual talent.
