NCAA Basketball: Ranking of top 25 team frontcourts for 2023-24 season
14. Alabama Crimson Tide
Few teams saw as much lost frontcourt production this offseason as Alabama. First, and most important, was losing SEC Player of the Year and All-American small forward Brandon Miller, who led the team with 18.8 rpg and 8.2 rpg. Also off to the NBA is freshman starting forward Noah Clowney, as well as senior, Noah Gurley. And losing starting center Charles Bediako will have an impact on the defensive end.
The good news is that the Crimson Tide was able to bring back a lot of talented players. Grant Nelson was one of the top transfers from the portal this offseason, coming off averaging 17.9 ppg and 9.3 rpg at North Dakota State. Another transfer is Mohamed Wague, a 6’10 big man from West Virginia who adds interior depth inside. Nick Pringle is the lone returning frontcourt piece who showed offensive potential when giving minutes inside.
There are three top-100 freshmen joining the team as well, led by five-star forward, Jarin Stevenson. He’s a reclass player so he may be more of a developmental piece at first but his spacing ability should help out. Sam Walters has reportedly been a preseason standout, while Mouhamed Dioubate is recovering from an offseason injury but could be ready to go soon.
Alabama’s frontcourt potential will likely come down to how effective Nelson is on both ends, coming over from the Summit League. If he’s an all-league player and the new-look backcourt does its part, the team can be an SEC contender again.
