NCAA Basketball: Ranking of top 25 team frontcourts for 2023-24 season
13. Marquette Golden Eagles
The Eagles return just about everyone from last season’s 29-win team but the one big player loss was Olivier-Maxence Prosper, the starting forward and elite two-way versatile player. He averaged 12.5 ppg and 4.7 rpg and is now in the NBA as a first-round NBA Draft pick. Two other minor departures from the frontcourt were Zach Wrightsil and Keeyan Itejere.
The other starting forward that’s back Oso Ighodaro, is one of the more skilled bigs in NCAA Basketball. He averaged 11.4 ppg and 5.9 rpg, along with over three assists a game. The 6’9 forward and All-Big East contributor had 13 games of at least 14 points last season, including a 16-point and 18-rebound performance versus Notre Dame.
The other projected starter is David Joplin, who happened to be the Big East 6th Man of the Year last season. He averaged 9.2 ppg and 3.2 rpg in 19 mpg, shooting 40% from three-point range. He may not be the same defender that Prosper was but with the elite guards able to benefit from the spacing that Joplin offers, that could end up being a net-plus.
As long as Marquette can get some solid bench production from guys like Ben Gold, Caedin Hamilton and four-star freshman Al Amadou, the frontcourt will be in great shape for this season.
