9. Villanova Wildcats

There were various issues that derailed the Wildcats last year but a lack of talent inside wasn’t one of them, though there were some injuries. Five-star freshman Cam Whitmore ended up being a “one and done”, now in the NBA. Also gone is Brandon Slater, who flew under the radar as an impact piece, scoring 9.7 ppg as a starter.

The most important thing for Villanova is that they were able to bring back its leading scorer from last season, Eric Dixon. He averaged 15.4 ppg and 6.6 rpg, scoring at least 20 points on seven different occasions. One of them included a career-high 31 points against Creighton on 11/15 shooting and 6/8 from deep.

One key addition to the roster for the Wildcats is Tyler Burton. He was a star at Richmond for the past few years, coming off a career-high of 19.0 ppg and 7.4 rpg on 45% shooting from the field. He had five games with at least 26 points, including a 38-point effort against College of Charleston.

The depth is plentiful as well, including Kentucky transfer Lance Ware, former top-100 recruits Nnanna Njoku and Trey Patterson, as well as four-star wing, Jordann Dumont. Assuming that health isn’t an issue this time around, look for the Wildcats to get back where they’ve been for years, in the top-tier of the Big East.
