NCAA Basketball: Ranking of top 25 team frontcourts for 2023-24 season
7. Creighton Bluejays
The Bluejays were perfectly balanced last season in that they had both an elite frontcourt and backcourt. However, they do lose one key piece this offseason in Arthur Kaluma, the starting forward who averaged 11.8 ppg and 6.0 rpg. He’s off the Kansas State and the team is hoping that either Virginia transfer Isaac Traudt or Mason Miller can be his replacement.
Whoever is starting at the four-spot will be playing next to one of the best big men in NCAA Basketball. Ryan Kalkbrenner led the team with 15.9 ppg and 6.1 rpg, while being the two-time Big East Defensive Player of the Year. When he was healthy, Creighton was one of the five best teams last season.
Behind Kalkbrenner at center is Fredrick King, a four-star prospect who was a productive backup at center. He was solid for Creighton when the starter was out for a few weeks last season. To add to the depth is newcomer Johnathan Lawson, a transfer wing from Memphis who’ll provide the athleticism without Kaluma around.
Having Kalkbrenner along gives Creighton an elite backcourt but how the four-spot works out will be something to watch. Because right now, that’s viewed as the weakspot of the roster.
