NCAA Basketball: Ranking of top 25 team frontcourts for 2023-24 season
1. Purdue Boilermakers
There wasn’t really any debate as to who should have the No. 1 spot on this list, as Purdue is the rare team to both return the National Player of the Year, as well as not losing anyone from its frontcourt that won both Big Ten titles and got a 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
It starts and ends with Zach Edey, who won the ultimate individual title last season. The 7’4 center led the Boilermakers with 22.3 ppg and 12.9 rpg on 61% shooting from the field. He had six games of at least 30 points, including 38 points and 13 rebounds against Michigan State.
The rest of the frontcourt is back with him, including starting forward, Mason Gillis (6.8 ppg). Trey Kaufmann-Renn is viewed as a potential breakout candidate, while Caleb Furst, Brian Waddell, and William Berg will also get minutes in the rotation.
Having Edey alone gives Purdue one of the best frontcourts in NCAA Basketball cause of how dominant he is. However, the rest of the team can hold their own as well. After last season’s NCAA Tournament debacle, they’ll have to show that they’re a little more well-rounded in order to make a deep run but the team has the collective of bigs to do so.
