We are leaving a significant number of potential candidates off this list, though we’re not going to spend too much time on coaches who recently took new jobs or are having success at much better programs. There’s clearly still a great plethora of names out there and this next coaches checks many of the boxes as well, especially because he’s still only 40 years old.

Miller played point guard at James Madison and North Carolina, winning the national title with the Tar Heels back in 2005. He was briefly a player overseas before beginning his coaching career back in the states. After bouncing around at a few schools, he found a home at UNC Greensboro, first as an assistant and then as head coach for nearly a decade, winning 125 games in his final five seasons. Miller took over as head coach at Cincinnati in 2021, made the NIT quarterfinals last season, and now leads the Bearcats into the Big 12.

Miller is a name on the rise in the coaching world, though you have to wonder if he’d leave Cincinnati after just three seasons, especially with the program having just joined the Big 12. There’s no specific connection for Miller to Louisville, though he did win that national title as a bench player in the ACC. He’s the youngest name on the list and has certainly shown his ability to turn a program around.
