UNLV Basketball 2023-24 season outlook

Thinking in terms of where they were just a season ago seeing a lot of highs and experiencing a lot of lows, UNLV is a program that can reset this year. The tricky thing with them is they need to establish some consistency in this squad. In Kruger’s third year, you’d like to see him establish the team that the public can identify with something. In other words, this year, UNLV should look to answer that question of “Who are we?” and play a brand of basketball they deem is theirs.

Keeping some continuity with players next year would be huge so they can stop relying on the portal as a reset button each year, and start utilizing that California, Nevada, West Coast talent pool to their advantage. One goal is to hopefully keep the younger guys for at least another year to build a foundation to bring future transfers or recruits into an already stable environment.

All of that being said, the Rebels can still achieve a lot of positive goals this season. With the schedule we looked at, you can see a path to another above .500 season with hopefully more consistency and meet the expectations of many. If they can finish out this season playing consistently and less of the up then down streaks, UNLV could consider that a win for going into future years.

All in all, that seems to be the main summary of their outlook this year. Establish who they are, play consistently, develop a base for the future, and make this program a solid entity that incoming players can look to and know what they’re getting into. Who knows, maybe they can pick up some big wins and really excel this year. After all, it’s not impossible to see the Rebels reach new heights as they did once as National Champions of 1989-1990.
