Reserves

Guard – A.J. Storr (Sophomore)

After earning All-Big East Freshman Team honors for his play with St. John’s last season, A.J. Storr has received plenty of offseason adoration since announcing his intentions to transfer to Wisconsin. The sophomore is a much different guard than what the Badgers have on their roster, a 6’7″ ball-handler who is a fearless playmaker. It will be interesting to see just how quickly he’s able to pick up Gard’s system and gel with this roster. There’s little questioning his talent, but this is a much different situation than the one he inherited at St. John’s last season. How quickly he is able to pick things up will decide just how many minutes we see him play his first year with the program.

Guard – Kamari McGee (Junior)

Kamari McGee played in 30 games in his first season with the program in 2022-23, but the former UW-Green Bay transfer is hoping to carve out an even larger role this year. McGee has demonstrated his value as an energy guy off the bench and he can be a dangerous shooter when he’s on, but it seemed like it took time for him to adjust to the pace of play in the Big Ten a year ago. A full offseason as part of the program should greatly benefit the veteran guard, who is likely to back up Hepburn this season.

Forward – Carter Gilmore (Junior)

Carter Gilmore was thrust into a larger role than expected a season ago, playing in all 35 games and making three starts for the Badgers. The former walk-on has shown he can be a contributor, mainly on the defensive end, but will have to battle for minutes this year after the addition of Gus Yalden in the offseason. Greg Gard does value experience and with three years already in the program, Gilmore certainly offers it.

Forward – Gus Yalden (Freshman)

The Badgers bolstered their frontcourt over the offseason by bringing in a pair of forwards, Gus Yalden from inside the state and Nolan Winter from Minnesota. As mentioned in my projected rotation and depth chart write-up, it feels like Yalden is a bit more college-ready at this point, but both should be expected to see minutes in 2023-24. “Gus Bus” should immediately become a fan favorite, as an active big man with a well-rounded game.
