Big Ten Basketball: Ranking all 14 head coaches heading into 2023-24 season
By Caleb Hall
No. 5: Greg Gard, Wisconsin Badgers
Greg Gard has been with the Wisconsin program since 2001, and I’m not sure he has any intentions of stepping down anytime soon.
Gard was an assistant coach for a long time until he got his shot at being a head coach, but at Wisconsin he as made his mark in the BIG Ten. He started out as a high school assistant who worked his way up to an assistant at Milwaukee, until eventually ending up with the Wisconsin Badgers. Gard eventually worked his way up to being the head coach of the Badgers in the 2015-16 season.
Gard made the sweet 16 in his first 2 years as head coach of the Badgers, and while he has made the tournament many times since then, he has yet to make it back to the sweet sixteen. Gard seems to continue the trend of postseason struggles, but he has had more success than most of the other coaches on this list.
Gard always has his Wisconsin teams ready to play, and they always are competitive in the BIG Ten. Gards should continue to be a top coach in the conference for years to come.
