Big Ten Basketball: Ranking all 14 head coaches heading into 2023-24 season
By Caleb Hall
No. 4: Kevin Willard, Maryland Terrapins
Kevin Willard showed out in his first year at Maryland, and it looks like he is just getting started.
Kevin Willard is most notably known for his time at Seton Hall, but before that he was the head coach at Iona for 3 years, an assistant for the Boston Celtics, and spent 6 years under Rick Pitino at Louisville. Willard had a 225-161 record at Seton Hall where he made the tourney 5 out of his last 6 years there (excluding the covid year). He never made it out of the first weekend, but getting Seton Hall there so many is already pretty impressive.
Willard led Maryland to 22 wins, a top 5 BIG Ten finish, and a round of 32 finish in the tourney. WIllard seems like he will be a force to be reckoned with in the BIG Ten for a while to come. His experience at Maryland proves he is a worthwhile coach who can recruit and coach at a high level that the BIG Ten is accustomed to.
Willard has already proven himself and he is just getting started.
