The Seton Hall Pirates have put themselves in a position where they have a lot of winnable games with a weaker team than last season. They start the year with four games they should win against local opponents, although Fairleigh Dickinson may be a tough challenge following their March Madness run. That game will be played in Walsh Gymnasium, Seton Hall’s smaller venue on campus, so that will be a good meter as to where this team truly is and a great moment for New Jersey basketball.

They will not get their first taste of Power conference basketball until their Thanksgiving trip to San Diego, California in the Rady Children’s Invitational, where they get the chance to take on a USC team that will have a lot of eyes around it due to Bronny James. They also have a potential rematch against Oklahoma or Iowa, both of which are teams they lost to last season.

After closing out November against Northeastern, the final part of their conference scheduled is a quick gauntlet. They kick off December with a major test in a road Big 12 matchup in Waco against an elite Baylor team. They follow that up with a few days to rest and what is always the biggest game on their schedule with the Garden State Hardwood Classic against a strong Rutgers team. Seton Hall won that game last year in a slugfest where neither team could reach 50 points, and the Scarlet Knights will look to reclaim the trophy, but the Pirates lead the series 6-2 since 2014.

They then end their nonconference slate with a road matchup against Missouri, which will be no easy contest as well. Seton Hall will need to have a strong run in this part of their schedule because the Big East does not get much easier.
