UConn Basketball: 3 takeaways from Huskies victory over Northern Arizona

Gampel Pavilion got the show it had been waiting for since the end of March Madness, as UConn Basketball began their title defense by stomping out the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 95-52.

Some other games around their conference saw the opening nonconference opponent give some teams in the Big East a run for their money, but not UConn, this game was dominance from the jump ball to the final whistle. Alex Karaban led the way with 22 points, knocking down three three-pointers in the process, also adding in seven rebounds in a performance that showed he was very much ready to step up this season.

As a whole, the team shot just under 30 percent from three, so that will be the main concern to fix as this team heads to their matchup against Stonehill, but with shooters like Karaban and Cam Spencer who hit two threes, they still have the talent to get those numbers a bit more consistent. Even teams that are known for their shooting usually take some time to get their rhythm in order, and this appears to be the case for UConn.

If anything, to have dominated in the way that they did all while struggling to shoot from behind the arc speaks volumes to just how good this team is, and also how good it can be.
