Seton Hall Basketball: 3 keys for Pirates to take down Fairleigh Dickinson
By John Makuch
3. Continue to shoot the three-ball
The aspect of their game that allowed Seton Hall to pull away late was their ability to shoot the three-point shot in the end. The Pirates went 6-14 from behind the arc, which is not the amount of threes a team should be shooting in this modern era of basketball.
What makes this even more interesting is four of those made threes came from one player, Al-Amir Dawes who is a lights-out three-point shooter. Dre Davis made one three that began the run for Seton Hall that would put Saint Peter’s away. But as a whole, shooting was not something the Pirates did a lot of in this game, and the same rang true last season.
However, there is a clear situation where Dawes is going to have to be reliable at shooting those shots when this team needs it, he is a great shot creator that this team needs, especially once conference play comes around. What makes this a bit more interesting is the switch to Walsh Gymnasium, which is a much different experience than shooting in the Prudential Center.
Taking down a feisty team like Fairleigh Dickinson will require not just Dawes to knock down shots, Richmond will have to get his jumper going as well. The star will need to continue to do star things, and after not making a three last game that may have to happen.
While this should be a simple game for the Pirates to win, given how the Saint Peters game went, there is no easy opponent, especially a team that put the country on notice just this past March. Seton Hall will need a strong game from their shooters and frontcourt to get it done, but if the Pirates bring the momentum from the end of the last game into this one, they should be just fine.
