Michigan Basketball: 3 keys to non-con matchup with St. John’s Red Storm
3. Getting enough offense outside of McDaniel and Nkamhoua
On paper, Michigan Basketball projected to be a good defensive unit, with some questions on offense. Yet scoring 90+ points in the first two games against solid mid-major opponents could put that to rest. But just to be sure, why not have another big outing against a more notable foe?
Nkamhoua and McDaniel will/have to get theirs but if the other starters (Burnett/Reed) aren’t going to be major offensive threats, where will the rest of the offense come from? Williams has looked good so far but he’s going to face much better competition on the wings. And while Will Tschetter did have 20 points on a perfect 8/8 shooting against Youngstown State, he still has a career 3.1 ppg through 29 games to this point.
There aren’t many other options for Michigan to turn to. Seton Hall transfer Tray Jackson has struggled so far off the bench, while freshman guard George Washington is slowly developing, scoring five points in two games. The injury to Jace Howard took away another potential option for them as well.
That’s what makes these early games so compelling; to see who steps up against real competition. Michigan Basketball has looked very good so far but will that perception remain the same against St. John’s? We’ll find out who steps up on Monday.
