Maryland Basketball: 3 keys to victory for the Terrapins against Villanova
Wake Up Donta Scott
Donta Scott returned to school for his fifth year in hopes of returning to the big dance for the second straight season. He has looked sluggish and at times lost in their first three games, scoring just 9, 4 and 13 points, respectively. He also left his assignment wide open in the final seconds in their loss to Davidson. If Maryland wants to win this game Scott needs to get going on the offensive side of the ball, 8 points per game is simply not enough for someone who is supposed to be a big part of your team.
In addition, Scott needs to play with A LOT more intensity on the defensive side of the ball. Early on, it appears as if he lets his offensive output dictate his defensive effort. If the Terps want to beat the Wildcats that needs to change. Villanova has the size and athletic ability to easily lock him down, but he can return the favor if he stays focused.
If Maryland is going to win this game, Scott will need to contribute in the 12-15 point range while being active on defense and on the boards. If he continues to be lackadaisical, Maryland will walk away 1-3.
