Villanova Basketball: 3 keys to Wildcats taking down Maryland Terrapins
By John Makuch
1. Continue to feed Justin Moore and Eric Dixon
The two stars on this team have emerged in Justin Moore and Eric Dixon, and they were two players who truly shined despite the loss to the Quakers. Any offense is going to see them be a key factor in it, and this is going to have to ring true against Maryland.
In the loss, Moore balled out with a game-high 25 points in 35 minutes, the returnee was very much needed for Kyle Neptune’s squad heading into the season and he kept them in it. The star wing is a true leader for this unit on both ends of the floor, so expect his high usage and large number of minutes to become the norm going forward.
Eric Dixon comes into this season as one of the best big men in the entire nation and the Big East Conference, and his expectations are there as well. Against UPenn he almost put in a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds, hitting two threes in the loss.
Dixon can dominate inside, despite being undersized, and they will have to use him and take advantage of this. Expect him to have a big game with a favorable matchup in what should be a big night for him.
Feeding these stars is what is going to win them games, and if their efficiency was a bit better they probably win their last game and are still undefeated. Other players will have to step up in addition, especially behind the arc this time.
